June 1st - Show 108 - Podcast 21

Another One With Sally

It's official, after much negotiation (we said 'yes') Jeff Daniels, Hollywood Legend, is going to be calling The Snug!!! - We'd like you to send us some questions for Jeff to the usual address (snugradio@yahoo.co.uk) before June 18th!

Sally rants about her new hairdo and gives us a few interview techniques for when Jeffs on. We also discuss my dear old mum getting run over by a car. I'm sure she'll be paying more attention next time she crosses the street.

Go and listen to
Technorama. It's much more geeky than the Snug so you'll have to have a techie mind to really appreciate it, but I've invited them onto the show, so it might be nice for you to have a listen. and at least one of our live listeners went on over to Doctor Floyd last week to find out what that's all about

Tamara has a lovely accent.

It's on it's ways!! Aug 18th! -
Snakes on a Plane.

May 25th - Show 107 - Podcast 20

Another One With Pirate Dave

Pirate Dave joins us in studio again this week and brings us pressies: coke, beer and sweets what more could a hard-working Internet DJ desire (women, next time, Dave!). We have some Piratey goodness and the move onto Tamaras house.

As you are no doubt aware, Tamara is our number 1 international listener and contributes heavily to the blog, forum and show, so nip over to the forum now and see where she lives (it's a FIELD!!!)

We play you a section of the "Funny trumps Wrong" show that found it's way into our mailbox this week. Wanna hear more, let us know and we'll feature them on our Live365 feed...Mail to the usual address!
Pirate Dave does us a jingle (kind of) and we play a piece of archive footage from Good Housekeeping 1955 that we found lying around, enititled The Good Wife Guide.

Maf finds he can do a passable Doctor Floyd impression, unfortunately it's limited to the word 'Hello'. If you want another funny podcast that family safe then visit Doctor Floyd as his Lab. We'd be more than happy to have him on the show sometime :)

Pirate Dave trials his new slot "Have I got Pirate News For You" and we sudden have a brainstorm, coming up with a potential winner of a slot called "Pirate Daves Doobery Shoot"
It beggars belief what we'll do for a bigger audience.

The One With Vice Monkeys

It's not often you get to hear our No1 listener swear, but tonight's the night! Listen in awe as Tamara peppers the show with obscenities.

We hear what it's like in Lees head when he's thinking and talk some more about monkeys.

We Skype Pirate Dave and invite him onto the show next week and we also wonder if saying 'shoot the RIAA' will get you a black van parked outside your house?
We also discuss criminal who burgled someones house finds a USB memory card with child porn on it...He faces a life sentence by bringing it to the cops, but does it anyway...what would you do?? and does he deserve a shorter sentence?

This Is True:
After Adrian Rumney, a financial analyst from Wellington, New Zealand, ordered a new debit card from his bank, he stopped to buy some groceries with it. The card was declined. He called the bank to see what was wrong; he was told his account was overdrawn by NZ$12.18 million (US$7.71 million): it was supposed to cost NZ$9.95, but the bank had accidentally charged him the millions instead. Worse, no one at the bank had the authority to reverse a transaction that large, so Rumney had to cool his heels while the bank figured out what to do. Meanwhile, the bank was charging NZ$9,000 per day in interest on his overdraft. (Wellington Dominion Post)

The F & T Show 01

The F&T Show 01 - May

So you're hoping for a respite from the madness eh? 'fraid not. This is the number 1 show of the number 1 fans of the number 1 show that's called The Snug.

I must start but congratulating them on their theme music...the appropriate and oddly tikibartv-esque "The Lunatics (Have taken over the asylum)" by Fun Boy Three.

This show really take that Snug back to it's roots as you really do feel that you've wandered into the middle of a conversation. There's a guilty eavesdropping pleasure to it for some strange reason and as the girls start with a giggle fit, you feel like you've just missed the punchline.

Skype has a lot to answer for as it throws out their timing and makes some of their words sound funny but we move quickly into reverse speech / hceeps esrever. We even get a bit of freaky F&T backtracking.
It appears the UK politics as discussed on The Snug have little relevance to Canada, who'da thunk it..although I guess this means we should lay off those Chavs for a bit...and we find that although Tamara thinks she's politically correct, Fluffy thinks she's just polite.

After several minutes of 'how cool is The Snug!?' we find out about Fluffys E-disappearance for the last week or so then segue into Tamaras 'fictional' lottery win. After doling out thirty million Canadian dollars, I was distressed not to hear The Snug mentioned (although we might have been one of the 'help' groups mentioned??)
With a verbal deftness akin only to a Snug presenter we turn our ears to the many careers of Fluffy. Who knew she had so many odd jobs (in the true sense of the word), A funeral-directing dental technician who tested rollercoasters and now makes drugs?!!?

After a brief discussion on the catchiness of 'Start Wearing Purple', especially when you're trying to learn '500 miles', we move onto a moan about how many different places The Snug has on offer to our listeners...Some people! If our forum could handle the associated Snug fun, then we'd hand it over to Fluffy in a heartbeat! :)

The Ultimate Snug Silence (as Tamara cuts Fluffy off...but then, ironically, talks through it)

There's lots more Snug schmoozing and even a quick massage of Mafs already enormous ego and then Fluffy gets stuck in her beanbag...what a great imaginary-visual for you all...I laughed for ages. In her fluster at managing to get back out, she nearly forgets herself and sings!!!!!!!!

Instead, Tamara Sings "Your Children" which is part of old writings by Khalil Gibran

"What about the quotes?!" I imaginarily hear you cry... Well,
Tune in to this episode and you'll hear Tamara say:

“Exactly”
“Everyone has the right to think what they feel”
“It’s just things that tweak me” (?!)
“I’d get anyone I knew who needed their teeth fixed fixed”
“Ooh…What’s that noise?”
“Let’s go blog!” (in a sexy voice)
“They are so lucky the found us.”
“I think we ROCK!”

Then gasp in awe as Fluffy says:
“My brain doesn’t work that way at all.”
“Surprisingly, we do have lifes”
“Paid in kind…I suppose…We are.”
“The essence of hope”
“Aaahhh…the things I’ve done!”
“You can’t count on them for nuffin’”
“(giggles)…how random!”

The One With The Mixoff

Maf gets soundly trounced in the Life On Mars Mixoff...and although voting is still open, it's a pretty open and shut case?

Both files are linked at the bottom of the page so you can make up your own minds and don't forget to cast your votes by going to http://www.snugradio.co.uk and using the 'contact us' form.

We also discussed the new addition to the Snug Network. The pilot episode of the Fluffy & Tamara show is coming soon (see next post). They're radio virgins, so let the girls (and us) know what you think at snugradio@yahoo.co.uk. We're sure they'd love to get some feedback.

Listener Feedback (or, 'Previously on The Snug')
Tamara sent us these wonderful Birthday Wishes:

Dear Maf and Lee
First of all Happy Snug Birthday to you both!
Unfortunately you didn't do a big birthday present begging campaign, so even though I knew the birthday was coming up, I had no idea how soon it was. So this year's present is.... my graditude...
Here are 4 reasons I appreciate the Snug

1. Music, I have been reintroduced to music from my past that I had forgotten about (for example Fergal Sharky A Good Heart) and been introduced to new music (James Blunt and Nizlopi) So thanks for that!

2. Friends, you see I am a reclusive social person. Meaning I like to hang out with people but they usually need to come to my house. When I found the Snug just over a year ago I was in need of social time but wasn't sure how to go about it. The Snug was a perfect solution.

3. Getting me out of my shell. The very fact I am singing and sending it to you amazes me. You've allowed me to break out of my comfort zone and do something just for the fun of it.

4. Time for myself. Quite a few times over the past year people have tried to get me to do things on a Thursday (babysit, work out of the house, run an errand etc.) But I have been firm that Thursdays at 1:00 is time I am not avaliable. I tend to do things for others and not give time to myself, The Snug has helped me take that time for me.

So all in all I truly appreciate the time you take each week to put the Snug on. I look forward to many more shows. Thank you so much. Love, Number one international listener

This Is True:
Three men from Singapore went on a trek to Japan to seek out a karate expert to
appease one of the men's dying father. But the trio, aged 25 to 50, had to be rescued from Mt. Iwaki in Japan after they called for help: none of them were wearing appropriate clothing for a mountain trek. "Japan looked so small on the world map that we thought we would be able to find him straight away," one of the men said. (Reuters) ...Unlike how gigantic Singapore is.

May 4th - Show 104 - Podcast 17

May the Fourth (be with you)

Ah...Catastrophic failure whilst writing the show notes means that you really will have to listen to catch the missing bits. These notes will be patchier than normal.

We talked a lot about pooh in the start of the show and then the Number 2 association kicked in and we moved onto the special significance of numbers which brought us neatly to Numb3rs (the US series with the crime fighting mathematician) and, sadly, the demise of one of our favourite programmes, Heist. It's a travesy that small minded US TV execs can cancel such a good show after only 5 episodes...They should all meet a sticky end (and let people who appreciate good TV have a go).

As it's our Birthday, here's a couple of shots I found today from when we first started:

We do cover a whole host of other stuff, but the Snugfan blog does it a whole lot better than me at 23:50 on a Thursday. We decide to 'end' the show early and show our podcast listeners just what they're missing with an abbreviated Snug 2 and we end that with a spoof written by our favourite girls.

While taking a class in Valparaiso, Ind., Teresa Prenderville, 32, allegedly became irate when
another student asked if the seat next to her was taken. Prenderville allegedly told the man,
"I'm going to put a cap in you and send you to heaven" with such intensity, the man started crying.
Prenderville then stormed out to the school's lobby, broke a display case, and then punched a door
so hard she bent its frame, police say, noting she was so agitated they had to restrain her after her
arrest for intimidation and criminal mischief. The class? You guessed it: Anger Management.
